Ekotechnické museum is placed in the listed area of the old sewage cleaning plant, which is one of the important objects of our industrial architecture. Part of the tours are visits to the underground of the main operating building, where the visitors will learn about the history of sewerage and cleaning of waste water. One floor higher, in the steam engine room, two operational Breitfeld & Daněk steam engines from 1903 can be seen. On special occasions, these are shown running. These engines are maintained using Shell - Valvata 1000 oil, supplied by our sponsor, Shell Czech Republic a.s.
The operating lifetime of the plant was planned to end in the thirties of previous century, however, the plant served its purpose till 1967, when new modern mechanical-chemical treatment plant was opened on nearby Císařský island. Even during the beginning of the eighties the original sedimentation tanks served as manipulation tanks for a sludge from the new plant. Maybe because of this almost endless overuse the old plant survived into better times. The forgotten building was discovered by enthusiasts in mid-eighties. They started to repair the building. On April 26, 1991, the area was proclaimed historic landmark and in such a way a basis for further efforts was based.
The group of enthusiasts formed Nadace ekotechnického musea (Ekotechnické museum foundation) in 1992, later transformed into today's Ekotechnické museum, n.g.o.
Starting June 1, 2010, the Old sewage cleaning plant, Ekotechnické museum, o.p.s., becomes a national historic landmark.
